SHAH ALAM, March 8 — Selangor has seen women holding 32.9 per cent of decision-making positions under the state administration as of October last year.

Its Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin said this includes women appointed as head of departments as well as administrative officers of Grade 48 and above, such as the appointments of the Subang Jaya City Council mayor and Menteri Besar Selangor Incorporated chief executive officer.

He said efforts and initiatives have been carried out to encourage gender-sensitive development, such as the state's Gender Mainstreaming programme introduced in March last year, in order to form a harmonious state and country.

The move was initiated to allow the state government to achieve a minimum of 30 per cent of women’s involvement in all sectors and decision-making positions.

“We have appointed capable women of high calibre to spearhead key agencies which reflect the fair chance that Selangor had offered them.

“Various efforts and initiatives have been carried out to raise the dignity and appreciate the contributions of women within the community, especially in Selangor.

“Let us all show our appreciation to the women in our lives in conjunction with the International Women’s Day,” he said in a video recording today.

Amirudin added that this year’s theme ‘Choose to Challenge’ is to motivate women to continue facing challenges and overcoming obstacles.
