AMPANG, March 8 — The Selangor government will initiate a vaccine registration campaign starting next week to ease the process for the public to participate in the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme.
Its Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said grassroots leaders will be mobilised to pass on the information directly to the people to ensure that no one is left behind from receiving the vaccine.
“As of now, the registration rate is still low and in order to achieve the 27 million target of the Malaysian population (to be vaccinated), it would take more than a year.
“Therefore, I am coordinating with village heads and council members for them to help the people in signing-up for the programme,” he said when met during the Jelajak Kita Selangor programme at the Ampang constituency, here yesterday.
Meanwhile, Amirudin said as of Saturday, over 10,000 frontline workers in the state, which includes healthcare and security personnel, have been vaccinated under the first phase of the national immunisation plan.
He said the state is currently focusing on the preparations for the large scale vaccination drive for the second and third phases, which would involve the use of facilities.
“We are conducting a weekly meeting to put together the workforce among those involved as we are aware that the following phases are the most critical ones,” he said.
On February 25, Amirudin along with 42 others, which include state executive councillors and members of the Selangor Security Special Committee, had received the first dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine at the Shah Alam Hospital.
Among those inoculated were Deputy Minister of Health I Datuk Dr Noor Azmi Ghazali, State Secretary Datuk Nor Azmie Diron, State Legal Adviser Dato’ Salim Soib @ Hamid and Selangor State Health Department director Datuk Dr Sha’ari Ngadiman.
