PETALING JAYA, Feb 10 — A total of 40 trees were replanted around the Bandar Utama area to replace the damaged or uprooted old ones, say its state representative Jamaliah Jamaluddin.

Jamaliah said the move was not only to retain the natural environment but also to prevent uprooting incidents which would endanger the residents.

“The Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) has implemented the ‘cut down and replace’ policy whereby any trees that were chopped down for valid reasons must be replaced with new trees.

“This policy is implemented not only to preserve the environment but at the same time, we want to avoid the misunderstanding among the people that we are simply chopping down trees for no reason when the act can cause harm,” said Jamaliah after surveying the location for the replanting of ‘tembusu’ trees at Jalan SS 20/10, here today.

Also present was MBPJ council member Louis Uding.

At the same time, Jamaliah also reminded the residents from damaging old trees because the act will lead to prosecution under the Local Authority By-Laws.

“Preserve our old trees as best as we can because they protect our surrounding areas from the heat and make our neighbourhood more cooling and peaceful,” she said.
