SHAH ALAM, Feb 9 — The Selangor State Sports Council (MSNS) hopes restriction on the sports and recreation sector to be relaxed during the movement control order (MCO) period.

Its executive director Mohamad Nizam Marjugi said permission to hold sports and recreation activities will provide relief to all parties as well as revive the country’s sports industry.

“We support the government’s effort to curb the spread of Covid-19 but at the same time, we need to ensure the Malaysian community stays active and healthy.

“So we hope the country’s sports industry will be given a fair judgement in face of the pandemic which has yet to have an ending,” he told SelangorKini.

Mohamad Nizam said he is confident that sports practitioners are committed to maintain and follow the standard operation procedure (SOP) to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

“We hope the sports industry will become active again, in line with the safety measures outlined by the government for the common good,” he said.

Last Thursday, Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican said he had submitted a proposal to the National Security Council (NSC) to loosen restrictions on sports and recreational activities.

He said his ministry with the NSC are going through the details related to the SOP to find the best approach and a decision will be made soon that will also include guidelines on indoor and outdoor sports activities.
