SHAH ALAM, Jan 30 — The Selangor State Health Department (JKNS) will begin issuing compounds against private health institutions for failure to immediately report positive Covid-19 cases detected, says Selangor Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.
In a statement today, he said the upsurge in new daily Covid-19 cases in the state yesterday was mainly due to accumulated backlog cases from screening of factory workers, testing operations at prisons as well as screening results from private clinics and hospitals that had not been reported immediately or at real-time with some backdating to 10 days ago.
Yesterday, Selangor recorded its highest daily figure at 3,126 compared to the 1,574 infections registered on Thursday.
“To address the issue, the JKNS will issue compounds to private clinics or hospitals that do not immediately report the positive cases on the same day via the Public Health Lab Information System (SIMKA),” the statement read.
Amirudin said the decision was made after chairing a meeting with the Selangor Security Council Committee to discuss the rise in coronavirus cases in the state as well as measures to break the chain of the Covid-19 infection.
"I urge the people to continue in the efforts to break the chain of infection by adhering to the standard operating procedure (SOP). Remain consistent in wearing the face masks and keep a social distance.
"Selangor is our responsibility. Only with the spirit of togetherness, we would be able to break the chain of the outbreak," he added.
Yesterday, Selangor had been the cause of more than half of the record-high 5,725 daily cases reported in the country.
The state registered nine deaths out of the 16 new fatalities nationwide.
