RiDE expands to rural areas, help youth build careers

SHAH ALAM, Nov 1 — The Selangor government will expand its Roda Darul Ehsan (RiDE) initiative to youths in rural areas beginning next year.

State Youth, Sports Development and Human Resource Development chairman Mohd Khairuddin Othman said the effort would create an avenue for young people to generate income and further improve their socio-economic status.

"A total of RM2 million is allocated to continue the programme next year as recently announced by the Menteri Besar and we want to improve it.

"I believe it will help youths in Selangor to get involved in the e-hailing economy," said Mohd Khairuddin Othman when contacted.

On Friday, Selangor Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the RiDE program had helped about 3,000 youths find new careers as riders in the e-hailing service.

On September 20, SelangorKini reported that all programme participants will follow the course in stages in the near future.

Through the initiative, urban poor youths get a B2 motorcycle license subsidy amounting to RM350, an e-hailing course worth RM200 and a Social Security Organisation (Socso) contribution of RM70 per year.
