SHAH ALAM, Oct 21 — Police have arrested eight men, including a father and a son, suspected to be connected to the Sungai Selangor odour pollution incident, today.

Selangor Criminal Investigation Department chief Datuk Fadzil Ahmat said the suspects were arrested in Rawang at 11.30am this morning.

“The father and son aged 62 and 31 are the directors of a machinery sales and repair company, while the six other suspects are foreign workers.

“All of them will be remanded at the Selayang Court tomorrow according to Section 420 of the Penal Code,” said Fadzil in a statement today.

On Monday, the Environment and Water Ministry identified three industrial areas that were suspected to be the source of Sungai Selangor odour pollution.

The Sungai Selangor Phase 1, 2, 3 and the Rantau Panjang Water Treatment Plants (WTPs) were forced to suspend operations following the pollution detected at 2am, Monday.

The incident resulted in over 1.1 million account holders in 1,292 areas across the districts of Kuala Lumpur, Shah Alam/Klang, Kuala Langat, Petaling, Gombak, Hulu Selangor and Kuala Selangor to have faced unscheduled water cuts.
