SHAH ALAM, Sept 29 — The Selangor government has ensured that the safety of road users was given a priority before the Persiaran Shorea in City of Elmina, here, was opened for public use beginning midnight last night.

Selangor Public Amenities, Agricultural Modernisation and Agro-based Industry Committee chairman Izham Hashim said although the road was completed last year with a total cost of RM60 million, the opening of the road was delayed due to the high number of farm animals of about 1,000 cows and buffalos roaming in the area.

“We took a bit of time to sort out the matter but Alhamdulillah (thank God) Persiaran Shorea is now open and would benefit the residents,” he said at a press conference after the launch of the Persiaran Shorea, here yesterday.

Also present were Selangor Youth, Sports Development and Human Resource Development Committee chairman and Paya Jaras state assemblyman Mohd Khairuddin Othman and Sungai Buloh state representative R Sivarasa.

Izham said the state government is aware of the needs of the people and have relocated some of the animals to proper farm sheds with regular monitoring while the relocation of the remaining animals will be completed by end of November.

The 4.43 kilometres stretch will be of use for over 20,000 residents, especially those residing in Saujana Utama and Elmina Green.

Aside from addressing the traffic congestion issue, commuters will save about 20 minutes to travel from Elmina Green to Elmina Central Park.

Persian Shorea also connects Elmina Green to the Elmina city centre and also from the City of Elmina to the Damansara-Shah Alam Highway (Dash), which is expected to be completed by the end of the year.
