SHAH ALAM, Aug 24 — Selangor is the first state to organise a virtual state legislative assembly sitting that includes youths from the age of 15 to 35.

Selangor Speaker Ng Suee Lim said the Selangor Virtual 2020 Youth State Assemblyman Programme to be held on October 3 will welcome 56 participants from each state constituency.

“Before this, the youth assemblyman programme was a special sitting open to university students, but now with the approval for 18-year-old to vote, we decided to open it to secondary school students.

“We feel students should be exposed to the role and function of a state assemblyman which will indirectly help them make the right decision during election time,” said Ng in a press conference at the Annexe of the State Secretariat building here today.

Ng said applications are now open starting from last Friday until September 4. Those interested can register at the link http://bit.ly/ADNMudaSelangorVirtual‬ or get more information at the state legislative assembly official portal at dewan.selangor.gov.my.

“So far we have received 300 applications and the quality of the participants is the main criteria that will be decided by the organising committee, consisting of the Speaker’s office, Subang Jaya Municipal Council Zone 16 Local Youth Movement (PeBT) and Undi 18, which is a NGO.

“Thirty per cent of the participant’s quota will be allocated to women and people with different abilities (OKU) in line with the state government policy to empower these groups,” he said.
