SHAH ALAM, 23 — Ramadan this year will be ushered in without the usual traditions and practices, which is described as the dawn of the new normal, says the Selangor Menteri Besar.

Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the challenging times would give Muslims across the country time to self-reflect and perform their religious activities at home.

“Who would have thought that we will be ushering in the Ramadan without the usual norm. For me, the usual packed Ramadan with various buka puasa events has now been disrupted by the coronavirus outbreak,” he said in his Ramadan special address today.

Amirudin said the global pandemic has brought many challenges and lessons in life and is a form of ‘reminder’ from God to the people to take better care of the natural world.

He said the world would be reshaped after Covid-19 as human activities have been put on a pause, resulting in fresher air and cleaner rivers.

“The Covid-19 world we are facing now is one that has suffered from health, economic and political struggles.

“Little did we realise that Allah has tested us with this planned ‘interference’ so that we would be able to embrace Ramadan. In this holy month, our usual hectic daily routines would be put on halt, giving room for us to submit to our Creator” he said.

Muslims across Malaysia will begin the holy fasting month of Ramadan tomorrow.
