SHAH ALAM, April 14 — Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari has urged the people of Selangor to verify the veracity of information shared on Covid-19.

The Selangor Menteri Besar said stern action could be taken against those who spread fake news.

"The people should verify the information before sharing it on social media and should avoid sharing fake news," he wrote in his official Twitter account today.

According to Amirudin, those who publish or circulate fake news can be charged under Section 505 of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act.

Earlier today, Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob had warned the public that police can still investigate and take action against sharing of fake news even after the post in question has been taken down.

He added that the police and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission are investigating 192 cases with a number of arrests and charges already made.

Members of the public have been advised to refer to official platforms on Covid-19 from the Health Ministry at www.moh.gov.my or the World Health Organization at https://www.who.int.
