SHAH ALAM, April 2 — The Smart Selangor Bus will be used to transport Malaysians who are returning from overseas, upon their arrival at the airports, to the quarantine centres.
This is following the Federal government’s announcement on Tuesday that those who are travelling back to the country would have to go through a 14-day quarantine at the designated locations.
Selangor Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari said the buses will pick up the passengers arriving at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) and the Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport in Subang.
"It is important to cooperate with everyone, including the Federal government, to combat the Covid-19 outbreak, especially with Selangor being an entry and exit point of the country.
"This is why as part of the second phase of the Selangor state stimulus package, Ng Sze Han (state executive councillor) had announced that the Smart Selangor Bus will be used to transport the Malaysians from the airports to the quarantine centres.
"They will be transferred from the airports to the designated locations for a two-week quarantine," he said in an interview with Astro Awani, yesterday.
Amirudin said the mandatory quarantine order was imposed after the Federal government had found that only 25 per cent Malaysians returning from abroad had practised self-quarantine.
"This is why the state administration has prepared the Smart Selangor Bus to contribute to this purpose,” he said.
On March 31, Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said that Malaysians who return to the country will immediately be quarantined for 14 days, starting tomorrow (April 3).
He added those coming back – either on chartered or commercial flights – will immediately be sent to government quarantine centres as soon as they step off the plane.
The Smart Selangor Bus service had ceased operations beginning March 24 until further notice.
The suspension of the free bus service involves 138 buses on 43 routes.
