SHAH ALAM, March 27 — Selangor Menteri Besar says the public do not have to buy bottled drinking water as the tap water in the state is free from Covid-19.
Dato’ Seri Amuirudin Shari said that according to the World Health Organisation, the novel coronavirus has not been found in treated water.
"Based on the evidence, the risk of the virus to be present in the water supply is low as the water has been chlorinated during the treatment process," he said on a video message on his official Facebook and Twitter account, last night.
On March 23, Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Air Selangor) clarified on the safety of tap water for drinking and daily usage, due to the concern raised by the public following the Covid-19 outbreak.
The public is urged to boil the water to contain the spread of the coronavirus and is also advised to not store tap water for more than 24 hours as viruses and bacteria can breed in such condition.
Meanwhile, Amirudin said the state is committed to initiating various initiatives to protect the welfare and wellbeing of the people.
He asked for the people to cooperate with the state government by adhering to the movement control order in efforts to break the chain of Covid-19 infections.
"Based on the increasing number of cases, the public is urged to be disciplined in abiding by the order and stay at home so that we can contain the outbreak," he said.
