SHAH ALAM, NOV 21: Dengue fever cases across the country has declined by 12% (12,295 cases) from January until last November 5, to 90,506 cases with 214 deaths from 102,801 cases in the same period last year.
Health Ministry Director General, Datuk Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah said based on the survey done by the ministry, there has been a decline in dengue cases in 3 weeks that is in week 44.
“From last October 30 until November 5, there have been 1,263 cases reported compared to the previous week where 1,353 cases were reported indicating a decline of 6.7% or 90 cases.
“Meanwhile, there are 5 state showing an increase in the number of cases compared to the previous week and these are Pahang, Johor, Penang, Perlis and Kedah,” he said in a statement.
He said, the epidemic localities and hotspots also decreased to 438 and 46 respectively in week 44 compared to the previous week.
However, with 36 hotspots, Selangor is still on the top of the list compared to other states.
At the same time, the number of zika cases remained at 7since it was reported, from September 1 until November 5, nevertheless prevention activities are still ongoing.
“Health education activities relating to zika are carried out in all primary and secondary schools through the Kelab Doktor Muda.
“265 primary schools and 180 secondary schools have held the ‘public reading’ activity with peers on the dangers of zika. Meanwhile 192 primary schools and 116 secondary schools held gotong-royong activitiy to destroy the aedes breeding spots in the school compounds.
