KUALA LUMPUR, 2 Sept: Batu MP, Tian Chua, said that there may have been political interference which forced the police to call the BERSIH 2.0 committee following the success of the BERSIH 4.0 rally on August 29 and 30.
He said that the action is deemed to be strange because the rally took place peacefully between the participants and the police.
"Unfortunately, there is external pressure that forced the police to call on them to be investigated under Section 120 Act 124. This Act is very ironic because it describes an attempt on threatening parliamentary democracy.
"It does not make sense because BERSIH asked for a parliamentary democratic system that is free of corruption. Now, they are being investigated under contradictory Acts with a parliamentary democracy," he said at the compound of Bukit Aman today.
Tian Chua was present to provide support to the seven members of Bersih 2.0 who were asked to go forward to give their statement, and in fact he also objected if there is any political interference in the investigation.
Among those called are the BERSIH 2.0 Chairman, Maria Chin Abdullah, Sarajun Hoda Abdul Hassan, Masjaliza Hamzah, Farhana Halim, Fadiah Nadwa Fikri, Mandeep Singh and Adam Adli Abdul Halim.
