KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 4 — AirAsia Group Bhd has warned of longer-than-usual queues at airport check-in counters, security, and immigration checkpoints during the upcoming Deepavali holiday period, amid an expected increase in passenger traffic, and advised travellers to arrive early to avoid delays.
Passengers should arrive at least two hours before domestic flights and three hours before international flights to allow sufficient time for check-in and other airport procedures.
“Check-in counters will close one hour before the scheduled departure time at Kuala Lumpur International Airport Terminal 2 (KLIA Terminal 2) and 45 minutes before departure at other airports in Malaysia for domestic flights,” it said in a statement today.
AirAsia added that passengers can check their flight status and receive travel updates through the AirAsia MOVE app, while those who have completed online check-in can use airport kiosks to print baggage tags before proceeding to the self-baggage drop counters.
“For international travel, guests must meet the requirements for every country they will travel to and transit through, including visa requirements,” it said.
AirAsia's Auto Visa Check feature lets passengers travelling to destinations requiring a visa or Electronic Travel Authorisation verify most travel documents in real time during online check-in, from 14 days up to one hour before departure.
“Simply check in via the AirAsia MOVE app or airasia.com, scan the visa sticker in your passport or upload your e-visa when prompted, and once verified, your e-boarding pass will be issued instantly.
“If verification is unsuccessful, just head to the airport check-in counter for a quick manual document check,” it said.
Counter check-in service will be available only for guests with reduced mobility, those travelling with an infant (under 24 months of age), pregnant guests, senior citizens, and young guests travelling alone.
Pregnant passengers must complete a form at the airport counter, while those more than 27 weeks pregnant must submit an approved doctor’s medical certificate.
AirAsia also advised passengers requiring wheelchair assistance to make arrangements at least four hours before their scheduled departure through the booking process or the ‘My Bookings’ section of the AirAsia MOVE app.
Meanwhile, it also encouraged Malaysian passport holders to download the MyNIISe or MyBorderPass applications to facilitate immigration clearance at KLIA Terminal 2.
Passengers could use electronic boarding passes through the AirAsia MOVE app.
“However, please note that at certain airports, passengers are still required to print their boarding pass at the airport counter for verification purposes,” AirAsia said.
