KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 3 — Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar and Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) Governor Datuk Seri Abdul Rasheed Ghaffour will hold separate meetings with government departments and financial institutions to strengthen Malaysia's preparedness against security threats, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said today.
Anwar was responding to directives and advice issued to citizens of the European Union, Canada and Japan to stockpile food following cyberattacks targeting digital infrastructure across Europe and other Western countries, including administrative systems.
"We are still monitoring other developments. They involve tensions in West Asia, developments in Yemen and the Red Sea, and security threats in Europe.
"These show that crises abroad can also affect the safety of our people, our economic stability and our national interests," he said in a speech to Parliament.
Anwar added that the National Security Council had met to review existing mechanisms, coordination among ministries, agencies and security forces, and the country's preparedness for any eventuality.
