HULU LANGAT, Nov 1 — All agencies, including those managing funds for small-scale traders and hawkers, are reminded to handle government allocations with integrity and responsibility to prevent leakages and misuse of public funds.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said that every fund disbursed by the government must be closely monitored to ensure the money reaches the intended target groups and is utilised for its designated purpose.
He emphasised that the government will not compromise with any party that misuses these allocations, as such actions could undermine efforts to assist the people.
“That is why I am issuing a warning. Whether it is through TEKUN, Bank Rakyat, or Amanah Ikhtiar—manage these funds with the utmost care. This is money held in trust. If you violate this, you will be arrested and prosecuted. This is the only way to save our nation,” he said.
He made these remarks while officiating the closing ceremony of the National Hawkers and Small Traders Day 2026 (HPPK2026) at the Kajang Municipal Council (MPKj) Square, Kajang Stadium, today.
Anwar said the government is working to increase allocations for various sectors, including education and public welfare, despite constraints on national revenue.
He explained that these increased allocations are possible because the government has curbed leakages, reduced waste, and managed national revenue more effectively.
“Taxes have not been raised; in fact, they have been lowered. While revenue remains roughly the same, spending for the benefit of the people has increased.
“Some people on social media might question how it is possible to have lower taxes and lower national revenue, yet see an increase in allocations. It is because there are no leakages, no siphoning of funds, and no corruption. God willing, there is a blessing in what we distribute. That is our objective.
“That is why it is so important within the Education Ministry; we impart not only knowledge but also proper conduct; that is the core principle. What is the point of being clever, of becoming an accountant or a skilled financial expert, if one’s work is merely focused on finding ways to steal money?” he said.
