KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 30 — Social Security Organisation (SOCSO) payouts to the next of kin of Malaysians who died in the Nepal-Tibet flood is expected on November 4, said the Malaysia Solidarity Families in Hope (MASFIH) group.
MASFIH coordinator and spokesperson Manivannan Rethinam said SOCSO had contacted several families about the payout, with the process of collecting supporting documents now being expedited to facilitate the disbursement.
“Following the meeting with the human resources minister on Wednesday, SOCSO began contacting the next of kin of individuals identified as eligible for payments yesterday,” he said in a statement today.
He said MASFIH also helped facilitate the process by highlighting several communication challenges at the initial stage and coordinating contact details of the next of kin.
“Following feedback received from several family members, I contacted the SOCSO deputy chief executive officer (operations) to raise the matter,” he said.
Manivannan said he received a list of recipients and their information for resubmission to the agency.
He said the coordination helped streamline communication and allowed the families concerned to be contacted for documentation and payment arrangements.
Meanwhile, he said MASFIH is still awaiting the government’s decision on special financial aid for 54 Malaysian families affected by the tragedy.
He said the group hopes the matter would be brought up at a Cabinet meeting, followed by an official announcement and concrete measures to assist the affected families.
Manivannan said MASFIH will continue working with authorities and agencies to monitor developments and ensure the welfare of affected families.
