PETALING JAYA, Oct 30 — A total of 473 events in 43 sports have been decided for Southeast Asian (SEA) Games 2027, which will be hosted by Malaysia.

Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) deputy president Datuk Nur Azmi Ahmad said the decision was reached during a SEA Games Federation (SEAGF) Executive Committee (2025-2027) meeting online today.

“I gave (SEAGF members) the opportunity to ask questions, but they were very clear about the decision… there were no comments about the sports chosen,” he told reporters here shortly after the meeting ended.

Of the 43 sports, Nur Azmi noted that five sports that had been the subject of appeals were approved for inclusion in the 34th edition of the Games, namely, padel, dancesport, teqball, ice hockey, and kabaddi.

Meanwhile, Malaysia SEA Games 2027 Organising Committee (MASOC) secretariat chief executive officer Datuk Abdul Rashid Yaakub confirmed padel will be contested in the Kuala Lumpur cluster, while dancesport will take place in Sarawak.

Rashid added that six countries have expressed interest in participating in padel, which will make its debut at the biennial multi-sport event.

SEA Games 2027 will be held in Kuala Lumpur, Sarawak, Johor, and Penang from September 18 to 29 next year.
