SHAH ALAM, Oct 30 — The Selangor Immigration Department has successfully facilitated the repatriation of 83,787 foreign nationals under the Migrant Repatriation Programme (PRM) 2.0 from May 2023 to September 30.
Its acting director Mohmad Khusairi Kamarudin said this achievement over the 17-month period represents the highest number of registrations and applications recorded compared to other states.
"They comprise 60,913 men and 20,293 women, followed by 1,375 boys and 1,206 girls. This demonstrates the effectiveness of the initiative in addressing the issue of undocumented foreign nationals in a targeted manner.
"During the same period, the Selangor Immigration Department also successfully collected over RM42.6 million, consisting of more than RM1.68 million in special pass fees and nearly RM41 million in compounds," he said during a press conference at its headquarters today.
In light of this, Khusairi advised foreign nationals who have violated their pass conditions or overstayed in the country to utilise the Voluntary Repatriation Programme (PRM). This can be processed at four Selangor Immigration branches: Shah Alam, Port Klang, Kelana Jaya, and Kajang.
Regarding enforcement actions, he noted that Selangor Immigration continues to intensify monitoring in hotspots through the 'Mega Integrated Enforcement Operation,' which is ongoing.
In the latest operation, which began at 10pm last night and concluded early this morning, authorities screened 321 individuals during targeted raids across Shah Alam, Subang Jaya, and Klang.
"The premises raided included an entertainment centre (KTV), two factories, one processing plastic goods and the other manufacturing boxes, as well as five blocks of flats housing foreign nationals. The operation involved 130 personnel, comprising 115 officers from Selangor Immigration, along with representatives from the Employees Provident Fund (7), the Department of Labour (4), and the Malaysia Civil Defence Force (4)."
"Further checks revealed that 242 foreign nationals, aged between 25 and 50, were detained for various immigration offences — including the lack of identification documents, violation of pass conditions, and overstaying," Khusairi said.
Those arrested comprised 180 men and 62 women from Bangladesh (57), India (58), Indonesia (44), Myanmar (52), Vietnam (16), Thailand (4), Nepal (4), Pakistan (2), Laos (2), as well as refugees from Myanmar (2), and Cambodia (1).
He added that all detainees have been placed at the Semenyih Immigration Depot for further action. Meanwhile, five 'Form 29' notices (summonses for witnesses) were issued to Malaysian nationals suspected to be employers to assist with the investigation.
Addressing the presence of foreign nationals featured on the accounts of social media influencers, Khusairi said they have a dedicated social media team to monitor such content and he also encouraged the public to come forward with complaints or information.
"Many locations that were raided previously have been found to be operational again, and we require the public's cooperation in providing information," he said.
