KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 29 — No Malaysians were involved in the deadly high-speed train collision near Urda in Toledo, Spain, yesterday, the Foreign Ministry said.
In a statement today, the ministry thanked Spanish authorities for their cooperation with the Malaysian Embassy in Madrid.
“The ministry wishes to convey the Malaysian Government’s appreciation to Spanish authorities concerned for their valuable assistance and cooperation with the Malaysian Embassy in Madrid to verify whether any Malaysians were affected in the incident,” it said.
Malaysia also extended its deepest sympathies to the Spanish government and people over the tragedy.
Media reports said two passenger trains collided in Toledo province yesterday after a computer malfunction disabled the safety system. Authorities said nearly 70 people have been killed, and three days of national mourning were declared.
