SHAH ALAM, Oct 27 — Ten thousand people are expected to attend Selangor’s Deepavali celebration in Dataran Klang@Padang Chetty in Klang on November 6, said state executive councillor for human resources and poverty eradication Papparaidu Veraman.
He said the event, themed “Light of Unity, Selangor Prospers”, will be held from 7.30pm to 11.30pm that day with various festive segments for people of all races, including Indian cultural performances, a feast, and money packets for children.
“We want children to also experience the festivity of Deepavali through money packets, and enjoy cultural performances and the feast.
“Most importantly, this celebration is a chance for us to gather, share the joy, and bring people of various races closer,” he told a press conference on the event at his office here today.
Papparaidu said this year’s theme was inspired by how Deepavali is the Festival of Light, and carries a vision of light as a symbol of unity, hope and harmony towards building an inclusive, prosperous society.
“Deepavali isn’t just a religious and cultural festival, but a space to bring people closer and appreciate the contribution of every community in Selangor’s progress,” he explained.
Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari and other state government leaders are also expected at the event, and Papparaidu encouraged the people to come early to avoid traffic jams.
He also advised attendees to prioritise safety, especially if bringing children and the elderly along.
Papparaidu said he hopes the Deepavali event sparks togetherness and helps Selangoreans of various races build stronger bonds.
