SHAH ALAM, Oct 25 – Form Six students will begin receiving a RM2,500 allowance next year, Education Minister Datuk Seri Fadhlina Sidek said.
Fadhlina said payments will be disbursed in the first semester for students enrolling in the 2027 academic session and will be distributed once they complete registration.
"As soon as the registration of all Form Six students is completed, we will distribute the assistance in the first semester of their studies.
"Insya-Allah, they will start receiving the allowance in the first semester next year," she said, as quoted by The Star.
She also added that the allowance would be disbursed in stages over three semesters of study, amounting to approximately RM800 per semester.
Fadhlina welcomed the Budget announcement, describing the initiative as an important step towards providing greater support for Form Six students and improving the quality of the Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM) programme.
"We are very happy with this Budget announcement because one of our aspirations is to ensure that Form Six students receive greater support in their learning.
"We hope the allowance will help improve the quality of STPM," she added.
Fadhlina added that this provision demonstrates the government's commitment to supporting the learning needs of Form Six students while also enhancing the quality of the Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM).
On October 9, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, while tabling the 2027 Budget in the Dewan Rakyat, announced that the government had agreed to provide this cost-of-living allowance, equivalent to the allowance received by matriculation students, which is expected to benefit 90,000 Form Six students nationwide.
