SHAH ALAM, Oct 23 — Six people including a married couple have been arrested over the brutal abuse of a domestic helper in Tanjung Sepat, Kuala Langat, said Selangor police chief Datuk Shazeli Kahar.
He said the suspects are alleged to have inflicted burn wounds on the victim on October 16 after accusing her of stealing and damaging their property, according to a Harian Metro report.
He added that the victim, an Indonesian woman, is in stable condition, and said the married couple arrested are her employers. The couple has been remanded.
“The victim was abused over claims or accusations that she stole her employers’ belongings and damaged these employers’ belongings.
“The investigation paper is still (being drawn up), and further investigations are ongoing,” he told a press conference at the Selangor Police Contingent Headquarters here today.
Shazeli explained that the six suspects were arrested at a business front on Jalan Merbau in Pusat Perniagaan Oren, Penang, at about 6.30pm on Monday.
