SHAH ALAM, Oct 23 — Johan Setia and Klang logged Malaysia’s second- and third-highest Air Pollutant Index (API) readings at 2pm today, both in the unhealthy category at 157 and 156, respectively.
Three more air quality monitoring stations in the state also had unhealthy scores — Petaling Jaya (153), Shah Alam (152), and Banting (145) — while the remaining one in Kuala Selangor showed a moderate 78 reading.
Elsewhere in the Klang Valley, according to the API Management System (APIMS) portal, Putrajaya had an API reading of 125 while Kuala Lumpur’s Batu Muda and Cheras were at 155 and 98, respectively.
The highest API reading in Malaysia was detected in Negeri Sembilan’s Seremban at 158, with nearby Nilai scoring 156.
Of the nation’s 68 air quality monitoring stations, 16 had unhealthy readings and 49 had moderate scores. Good air quality was detected in three towns — Kedah’s Langkawi (48), Sabah’s Kimanis (48), and Terengganu’s Kemaman (44).
An API reading of zero to 50 is good, 51 to 100 is moderate, 101 to 200 is unhealthy, 201 to 300 is very unhealthy, and above 300 is hazardous.
