Today’s Dewan Rakyat sitting to cover transboundary haze

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 21 — The justification for and security of the new MyKad and Malaysia-Indonesia cooperation in tackling cross-border haze are among highlights of the Dewan Rakyat sitting today.

According to the Order Paper, during the question-and-answer session, Mohamad Shafizan Kepli (GPS-Batang Lupar) will ask the home minister about the extent to which enhanced security features, chip technology, and identity verification systems on the new MyKad can combat forgery, cloning, and the misuse of citizens’ identities, while ensuring their personal data is protected.

Datuk Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid (Kuala Kangsar) wants the natural resources and environmental sustainability minister to explain Malaysia’s diplomatic moves and cooperation with the Indonesian government to mitigate cross-border haze.

Also a highlight is a question from Yeo Bee Yin (Harapan-Puchong) for the investment, trade and industry minister about the initiative to produce 60,000 skilled workers under the National Semiconductor Strategy (NSS), including the number of people trained and the budget expended so far.

Datuk Mas Ermieyati Samsudin (PN-Masjid Tanah) will ask the entrepreneur and cooperatives development minister to state the percentage of micro-entrepreneurs who have received financing and assistance from ministry agencies from 2023 to 2026, those who successfully upgraded their business category to small or medium enterprises (SMEs), and the business failure rate after three years.

Additionally, Zahir Hassan (Harapan-Wangsa Maju) will ask the transport minister about the open payment system for public transport services in the Klang Valley.

After the question-and-answer session, the sitting will proceed with the tabling of the Registration of Criminals and Undesirable Persons (Amendment) Bill 2026 for its first reading by the home minister.

The sitting will then resume the debate on the Supply Bill 2027 at the policy stage, following the October 9 tabling of Budget 2027 by Prime Minister and Finance Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Based on the calendar for the Third Meeting of the Fifth Session of the 15th Parliament, the policy-stage debate on Budget 2027 runs until October 22, with wind-ups by ministers from October 26 to 29.

The Dewan Rakyat sits until December 8.
