SHAH ALAM, Oct 20 — The Selangor government will investigate claims that live pigs were brought in through Port Klang from Sarawak, said Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.
He said the administration will check reports about the incident to determine why the livestock were brought in.
“I am investigating because the supply, not all of it was for Selangor, (some) was for other states. If other states want to import, the gateway is Selangor. I have to … check back and we will take action (after checking),” he said today when met at the launch of a collaboration between Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd, Universiti Selangor (UNISEL) and Selangor Technical Skills Development Centre (STDC).
Previously, social media posts spoke of a group of people, supposedly Port Klang staff and residents, voicing their concerns about suggestions to bring in live pigs from Sarawak through the port.
Malaysian Muslim Consumers’ Association (PPIM) also objected to the suggestion, bringing up environmental pollution risks and the sensitivities of Muslim port staff.
On another development, over claims that a mosque in Kampung Nakhoda and a front in Kampung Laksamana were spreading Ahmadiah Qadiani teachings, Amirudin said this isn’t new, and that enforcement agencies are monitoring such activities.
He added that raids have been conducted before and most followers of those teachings are foreigners.
“Most followers are foreigners but there are locals. The teachings have been declared to be (deviant) from Islam, so the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (JAIS) can take action under relevant provisions, but they cannot be (penalised) under shariah law,” he added.
Amirudin also said monitoring will be done periodically, especially at mosques and surau.
Recently, a raid was conducted on the Kampung Nakhoda mosque and Kampung Laksamana premises believed to be used to spread Ahmadiah Qadiani teachings. The mosque didn’t have permission from the Selangor Islamic Religious Council (MAIS) to host Friday prayers, while the premises is said to have been used by foreigners, including Pakistanis, to gather and spread Qadiani teachings.
