SHAH ALAM, Oct 18 — All educational institutions under the Selangor Education Department (JPN) will operate as usual tomorrow, but all outdoor activities will be suspended because of the haze.
It said that pupils attending school are encouraged to wear face masks as a precaution to reduce health risks.
“Parents or guardians who are concerned about their children’s health are allowed to keep them at home, provided they inform the school.
“School administrators have also been asked to monitor Air Pollutant Index (API) readings from the Environment Department (DOE) and pay particular attention to high-risk pupils,” the Selangor JPN said in a statement today.
It also advised parents, guardians, and school staff to refer to the department’s or their schools’ official communication channels for accurate and up-to-date information.
Meanwhile, data from the Malaysian Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS) portal showed that five areas in Selangor recorded unhealthy API readings as of 3.20pm today.
Johan Setia recorded the highest reading at 159, followed by Shah Alam (157), Klang (155), Petaling Jaya (154), and Banting (153).
Kuala Selangor remained the only monitoring station in Selangor with a moderate API reading, at 78.
An API reading of zero to 50 is good, 51 to 100 is moderate, 101 to 200 is unhealthy, 201 to 300 is very unhealthy, and anything above 300 is hazardous.
