SHAH ALAM, Oct 17 — Starting October 8, the Klang Royal City Council (MBDK) has intensified cleanup efforts along the main drainage system in Bandar Sultan Suleiman following public complaints.
In a Facebook post, the council said the drain is being cleaned manually by an appointed contractor as part of routine maintenance.
“To ensure smooth operations, MBDK’s Environmental Services Department has instructed the contractor to temporarily open the fence to allow cleaning machinery and equipment to enter the site for a thorough cleanup (to be done) as soon as possible,” it said yesterday.
MBDK added that four cleanup sessions were scheduled — from June to August, September to October, November to December, and next January to February.
“The council appreciates the public’s concern and efforts in submitting complaints, and remains committed to improving municipal services for community well-being,” it said, and reminded people not to litter or throw rubbish into drains, to prevent a recurrence.
The rubbish issue at Bandar Sultan Suleiman went viral recently after a social media user shared photos of rubbish-filled drains, prompting Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari to post on Threads calling for immediate action.
