SHAH ALAM, Oct 16 — A man suspected of operating a taxi tout at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Terminal 1 has been detained, while his vehicle was seized for investigation, said the Selangor Road Transport Department (JPJ).
It said the KLIA Enforcement and Control Division seized a Perodua Alza after the driver allegedly offered to charge two Bangladeshis for a trip to Shah Alam.
“Preliminary investigations revealed the individual had solicited, persuaded, and offered transport services to two Bangladeshis at KLIA Terminal 1, proposing a trip to Shah Alam, Selangor, for a fare of RM100, payable upon arrival at the destination,” Selangor JPJ said in a Facebook post.
It said if found guilty, the man faces a fine not exceeding RM50,000, a jail term not exceeding five years, or both, under Section 205(1) of the Land Public Transport Act 2010.
It added that those who aid illegal transport activities could be prosecuted under Section 243(1) of the same act.
Selangor JPJ also advised the public to use legitimate transport services by booking through official counters at KLIA Terminal 1 and 2, or using authorised e-hailing apps.
It said people may submit traffic-related complaints via email to aduantrafik@jpj.gov.my or on the e-aduan@JPJ app.
