SHAH ALAM, Oct 15 — The Air Pollutant Index (API) readings in Klang and Johan Setia are edging closer into very unhealthy territory, at 194 and 192, respectively, at 2pm today.
According to the API Management System (APIMS) portal, Selangor’s remaining four air quality monitoring stations also logged unhealthy readings, at 181 in Shah Alam, 173 in Banting, 169 in Petaling Jaya, and 160 in Kuala Selangor.
These six towns joined 29 others nationwide in the unhealthy category, including Negeri Sembilan’s Nilai (191) and Seremban (183) and Johor’s Batu Pahat (183), Larkin (183) and Pasir Gudang (182).
Thirty-three out of Malaysia’s monitoring stations logged moderate API readings, and no towns had good air quality.
An API reading of zero to 50 is good, 51 to 100 is moderate, 101 to 200 is unhealthy, 201 to 300 is very unhealthy, and anything above 300 is hazardous.
Yesterday, Education Minister Datuk Seri Fadhlina Sidek said parents may keep their children home if they are concerned about the haze, provided they inform schools.
