SHAH ALAM, Oct 15 — The murder case of Irene Sofiya Mohd Khairool Faisal, 16, at a secondary school in Yong Peng on October 3 has taken a new turn, with her classmate set to be charged at the Batu Pahat Magistrate’s Court this morning.
According to the e-Kehakiman system, the 16-year-old Form Four student is scheduled to appear before Magistrate Mustaqim Sukarno at 9 am.
The suspect is expected to be charged with murder under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
It is understood that the decision to press charges was made after the investigation papers were referred to the Johor State Legal Adviser’s Office before being submitted to the prosecution.
In the incident, Irene Sofiya, affectionately known as Fiya, was found unconscious and covered in blood in the school hall at about 5.50 pm. She was later pronounced dead.
The victim, the only daughter in her family, was reported missing after failing to return home when her extra classes ended at 5 pm.
A friend who noticed that Irene’s motorcycle was still at the school went to her grandmother’s house, prompting a search involving family members.
The search ended when Irene was found lying in the school hall with dried blood on her body and bruises believed to have been caused by blows.
Following the incident, police arrested a male student who was also the victim’s classmate to assist in investigations.
The suspect has been in remand since October 4, with the remand period scheduled to end today.
