Petrol, diesel prices drop as regional fuel supplies recover

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 15 — The retail prices of RON97 and unsubsidised RON95 petrol will fall by five sen per litre each to RM5.10 and RM4.62 respectively, while unsubsidised diesel will drop by 10 sen to RM5.17 per litre from today to October 21.

In a statement yesterday, the Ministry of Finance (MOF) said that although Brent crude oil prices remained above US$100 per barrel, supplies of refined petroleum products in the regional market had begun to show signs of recovery.

The ministry said China had reauthorised fuel exports for October, while South Korea continued to supply refined petroleum products to the regional market, helping to ease supply pressures.

“Nevertheless, the conflict in West Asia, including the attacks in Saudi Arabia last week, increases the risk of supply disruptions and rising petroleum prices. Price volatility is expected to continue in the medium term.

“The government will continue to protect the people and businesses from the impact of this global uncertainty. As announced in Budget 2027, the government is expected to spend RM40 billion on fuel subsidies next year to support economic growth and ensure the sustainability of the people’s livelihoods,” MOF said.

The ministry said recipients of BUDI Madani RON95 (BUDI95) would continue to pay RM1.99 per litre, compared with the unsubsidised RON95 price of RM4.62 per litre.

The government would bear a subsidy of RM2.63 per litre, equivalent to 57 per cent of the unsubsidised price.

Recipients of BUDI Madani Diesel (BUDI Diesel) would continue to pay RM2.10 per litre, compared with the unsubsidised diesel price of RM5.17 per litre.

The government would provide a subsidy of RM3.07 per litre, equivalent to 59 per cent of the unsubsidised price.

“Although the country’s fuel supply remains sufficient for now, the government urges the public to continue practising prudent fuel consumption.

“More efficient travel planning and reducing unnecessary trips can help prolong the nation’s fuel supply and reduce pressure on subsidy expenditure,” the ministry said.

MOF said the government would continue to adopt a prudent approach to protecting the people from price fluctuations while ensuring that the country’s fuel supply remained sufficient and secure.
