KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 13 — The new RM2,000 minimum wage, registration of Myanmar refugees, and measures to address the humanitarian crisis in Palestine’s Gaza are among key discussion topics in the Dewan Rakyat today.
According to the Order Paper on the Parliament website, during Minister’s Question Time (MQT), Aminolhuda Hassan (Harapan-Sri Gading) will ask the economy minister to explain government mechanisms to ensure the minimum wage does not result in job losses, price hikes, or increased operating costs for small enterprises.
Jimmy Puah Wee Tse (Harapan-Tebrau) will ask the home minister about registration targets concerning Myanmar refugees over the next two years through the Refugee Registration Document (DPP).
After that, Ahmad Tarmizi Sulaiman (PN-Sik) will ask the foreign minister about strategic steps following three years of genocide in Gaza, especially in boosting protection for Palestinians, humanitarian aid access, international accountability, and the rebuilding of Gaza.
During the oral question-and-answer session, Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man (PN-Kubang Kerian) will ask the energy transition and water transformation minister about the new net generation capacity targeted by 2030 and the capacity committed under Power Supply Agreements with data centres.
Ahmad Johnie Zawawi (GPS-Igan) will ask the education minister about the number of reserve teacher candidates among Sarawakians awaiting appointment and plans to absorb them.
Meanwhile, Datuk Mohd Isam Mohd Isa (BN-Tampin) will ask the domestic trade and cost of living minister for an update on a study to enact a law against event ticket scalpers, including existing legal loopholes that hinder enforcement.
After the question-and-answer session, the house will continue debating the Supply Bill 2027 at the policy stage, following the tabling of Budget 2027 by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who is also finance minister, on October 9.
According to the calendar for the Third Meeting of the Fifth Session of the 15th Parliament, the policy-stage debate on Budget 2027 will run until October 22, followed by a four-day ministerial wind-up from October 26.
The Dewan Rakyat sits for 37 days until December 8.
