Selangor air quality remains moderate this evening

SHAH ALAM, Oct 11 – All areas in Selangor continue to record moderate air quality level as of 5pm today, while 14 monitoring stations nationwide logged unhealthy readings.

According to the Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS) portal, a total of 48 stations nationwide recorded moderate API readings. 

In Selangor, Johan Setia recorded the highest reading at 79, followed by Shah Alam (76), Petaling Jaya (73), Klang (72), Kuala Selangor (69) and Banting (54)

Across the country, Pasir Gudang had the highest reading at 177, followed by Larkin (176), and Kota Tinggi (165), all in Johor. 

Five stations nationwide showed good air quality, namely Kangar, Perlis (45), Kulim, Kedah (43), Minden, Penang (42), Langkawi, Kedah (34), and Balik Pulau, Penang (30).

An API reading of 0 to 50 indicates good air quality, 51 to 100 is moderate, 101 to 200 indicate unhealthy air quality, 201 to 300 is very unhealthy, while readings above 300 are hazardous.

Earlier, Education Minister announced on Facebook that schools under the Hulu Langat, Gombak and Petaling Perdana District Education Offices (PPD) in Selangor will remain closed tomorrow as haze continues to affect several areas across the state. 

She said the closure also involved all schools in Johor, as well as Bangsar and Pudu in Kuala Lumpur.

Meanwhile, schools in Melaka, Penang, Putrajaya, Labuan, Perak, Pahang, Negeri Sembilan, Kelantan, Terengganu, Kedah, Perlis, Sabah and Sarawak will continue as usual.
