SHAH ALAM, Oct 10 — The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has formed a special team to review and re-examine allegations of corruption amounting to RM350,000 linked to a senior officer of the commission, which were recently circulated online.
In a statement today, the MACC said it had previously investigated the issue in 2018, but closed the case after no wrongdoing could be proven.
However, after calls for action and the issue resurfaced online, MACC Chief Commissioner Datuk Seri Abd Halim Aman ordered the immediate formation of the special team.
"This step was taken to ensure the MACC's integrity remains upheld and to maintain public confidence in the institution," the statement read.
He stressed that the commission takes any allegations that could tarnish its credibility.
"The MACC will not compromise in addressing any issue that could undermine its credibility.
"In this regard, the public is urged not to engage in speculation concerning the matter," he said.
The MACC also reminded all parties not to disseminate unverified news.
