SHAH ALAM, Oct 10 — Air quality readings as of 5pm today have slowly improved, with fewer areas in the country recorded as unhealthy, according to data from the Malaysian Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS).
The portal recorded 28 areas nationwide with unhealthy air quality readings this evening, compared to 32 areas at noon today.
More areas in Johor were recorded as having unhealthy air quality, with Tangkak recording the highest air pollution index (API) reading at 184, followed by Pasir Gudang (182), Larkin (180), Segamat (174), Batu Pahat (174), Kluang (172), and Kota Tinggi (171).
The portal also recorded unhealthy API readings in Johor, Melaka, Negeri Sembilan, Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Putrajaya, Perak, Pahang, and Sarawak.
In Selangor, unhealthy API readings were recorded in Shah Alam (158), Johan Setia (156), Petaling Jaya (154) and Klang (132), while Kuala Selangor and Banting moved to the moderate API listing at 92 air quality readings, respectively.
Meanwhile, 40 areas recorded moderate air quality readings, with no areas recorded as good or very unhealthy API.
An API reading of 0 to 50 indicates good air quality, 51 to 100 is moderate, 101 to 200 is unhealthy, 201 to 300 is very unhealthy, while readings above 300 are hazardous.
The public is advised to reduce prolonged outdoor activities and take necessary precautions when air quality deteriorates.
