Selangor backs Budget 2027 allocations for state development, public welfare

SHAH ALAM, Oct 10 — The recently tabled Budget 2027 balances moral accountability and fiscal responsibility while reflecting the government’s values of compassion, sustainability and the well-being of the people, said Selangor Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the RM510 billion federal budget balanced fiscal responsibility with the government’s commitment to protecting the people amid rising living costs and global supply disruptions.

“The budget aims to cushion the people from the rising cost of living, especially as much of the world faces supply crises amid the ongoing West Asia conflict, with no clear signs of a resolution,” he said in a statement today.

Amirudin said the RM100 million allocation to expand the Batu Dam and Klang Gates Dam and retention ponds would help mitigate flash floods and ease public concerns.

“The construction of the Bandar Serenia Urban School Complex in Sepang and the commitment to work together to develop the potential of the semiconductor industry between the Selangor government and Khazanah are greatly welcomed, given their potential to expand the domestic manufacturing industry.

“The Selangor government is ready to work closely with the federal government to ensure that all planned initiatives are implemented effectively for the benefit of the people of Selangor and Malaysia, and to realise the aspirations of the budget,” he added.

Amirudin said the increase in financing for micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to RM57 billion was also significant, given their role in the national economy.

Amirudin also welcomed the RM72.9 billion in subsidies to help the people, increased allocations for healthcare and education, and the higher minimum wage of RM2,000 a month.

He said proposed governance reforms and greater transparency in government projects and procurement would strengthen public and business confidence.

The RM47.7 billion allocated for healthcare and RM69 billion for education, representing increases of RM1.2 billion and RM2.8 billion respectively, Amirudin said, would strengthen essential public services and support healthcare workers and the education community.

“The increase in the national minimum wage from RM1,700 to RM2,000 a month, alongside a new income framework that sets a minimum salary of RM2,500 for semi-skilled workers and graduates, will help improve workers’ livelihoods.

“These policies will build a more confident society and strengthen the resilience of individuals and families, enabling them to enjoy a more comfortable life without relying entirely on government assistance,” he said.
