SHAH ALAM, Oct 10 — Eight states and two Federal Territories maintained their unhealthy Air Pollutant Index (API) readings as of 12pm today, with four areas in Johor—Batu Pahat (187), Larkin (185), Pasir Gudang (184), and Tangkak (183) recording the highest readings.
According to data from the Malaysian Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS), 32 areas, including those in Johor, Melaka, Negeri Sembilan, Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Putrajaya, Perak, Penang, Pahang, and Sarawak, recorded unhealthy API readings as of noon today.
However, most affected areas showed a slight improvement when compared with the air quality levels recorded in the morning.
At 10am, Batu Pahat recorded an API reading of 190 followed by Larkin (185), Pasir Gudang and Tangkak recording 185 each.
The portal also displayed a slight downward trend in the API reading for Selangor at noon.
However all six areas in Selangor maintained unhealthy air quality readings.
In Shah Alam, the API reading was 165, followed by Johan Setia (163), Petaling Jaya (160), Klang (155), Banting (152) and Kuala Selangor (144).
Earlier this morning, the portal reported a reading of 168 for Shah Alam, followed by Johan Setia (166), Petaling Jaya (161), Klang (158), Banting (155), and Kuala Selangor (153).
Meanwhile, 36 areas recorded moderate air quality readings, with no areas recorded as good or very unhealthy API.
An API reading of 0 to 50 indicates good air quality, 51 to 100 is moderate, 101 to 200 is unhealthy, 201 to 300 is very unhealthy, while readings above 300 are hazardous.
The public is advised to reduce prolonged outdoor activities and take necessary precautions when air quality deteriorates.
