SHAH ALAM, Oct 9 — The government will increase the total maternity leave for civil servants from 360 days to 490 days, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said.
The maternity leave allowance increases to a maximum of 98 days per birth.
“RM20 million has been allocated to improve childcare centres at government facilities,” he said when tabling the Budget 2027 in the Dewan Rakyat today.
Under the allocation for civil servants, nearly 59,000 retirees, Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) veterans, and recipients of derivative pensions will benefit from the pension rate increase from RM1,000 to RM1,350 per month.
Anwar added that nearly 900 MAF personnel will benefit from family housing to be built in Skudai, Johor, as well as new quarters at the Langkap (Perak) and Papar (Sabah) Immigration Detention Depots.
Meanwhile, the allowances for RELA members, auxiliary firefighters, police volunteers, and civil defence volunteers have increased by RM1 from RM8 to RM9.
“For the supervisor category, RM10.80 per hour, with an allocation of RM339 million benefiting nearly 50,000 volunteers,” he said.
The allocation for the construction and maintenance of government quarters will be increased to RM2.3 billion, covering housing for police personnel, doctors, military personnel, teachers, and firefighters.
“The role of the Property Management Division is being upgraded to the National Property Department to strengthen the management of civil servant housing,” Anwar said.
Elsewhere, the one-off Ex-Gratia payment to next of kin will increase from RM20,000 to a maximum of RM50,000, depending on the duration of service.
The payment is in addition to the existing monthly Ex-Gratia payment for next-of-kin in cases of death resulting from work-related accidents, effective from 1 January 2026.
The Prime Minister noted that the government will implement a one-off promotion on a Khas Untuk Penyandang (KUP) (personal-to-holder) basis for 12,000 officers in top management and professional officers (P&P) who are outstanding and waiting for promotion due to limited available positions.
KUP refers to a personal position or grade designated to maintain a civil servant's substantive grade when there is a discrepancy between that grade and the position they currently hold.
