KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 9 — Some 40,000 KTM Komuter users stand to benefit from the MYKOMUTER50 incentive next year, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said.

The initiative is expected to save users up to RM160 a month, while free passes will also be given to 360,000 schoolchildren, the disabled community, and children under six. The My50 facility will continue for Prasarana bus and rail users in the Klang Valley.

As a long-term fix for train breakdowns and service disruptions, Prasarana will invest over RM3.4 billion to comprehensively rehabilitate its rail services.

"The government will also acquire 42 new train sets for ETS and KTM Komuter services," he said when tabling the budget in the Dewan Rakyat today.

Anwar also announced that ECRL Phase One, from Kota Bharu to the Gombak Integrated Terminal, is expected to begin operations this December, with Malaysia and China agreeing to extend the line to Rantau Panjang.

"A bus station will be built at the Kota Bharu ECRL station for the people of Kelantan. RM270 million will be allocated to improve stage bus services in major cities, including linking 15 East Coast stations ahead of ECRL operations," he said.

The government and Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd will set aside RM1.1 billion to upgrade roads in port areas and at airports in Kota Kinabalu, Miri, Tawau, and Sandakan in Sabah, as well as Penang, as well as the Long Banga and Ba'Kelalan STOLports in Sarawak.
