SHAH ALAM, Oct 9 — More than 9,000 contract doctors will be offered permanent posts next year, ending the contract appointment system launched in 2016, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
When tabling for Budget 2027 in the Dewan Rakyat here today, he said doctors who complete their housemanship will also be offered permanent posts.
“I am pleased to announce that the issue of contract doctors will be resolved. Since 2023, the Madani Government has appointed more than 15,000 contract doctors to permanent positions, including 4,000 this year.
“In 2027, more than 9,000 contract doctors will be offered permanent positions,” he said.
Previously, Health Minister Datuk Seri Dzuklkefly Ahmad hinted at good news for the contract doctors.
Meanwhile, Anwar said post-basic incentive allowance will be increased from RM100 to RM200 a month for 47,000 paramedics and nurses, and Flying Doctor Service (FDS) members’ allowance from RM30 to RM100.
“We are saddened by the helicopter crash involving the aeromedical service in Long Lellang, which claimed the lives of front-line healthcare personnel. The government has agreed to increase the aeromedical service incentive allowance from RM30 to RM100,” he said.
