SHAH ALAM, Oct 9 — The government has agreed to defer National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) loans for those earning up to RM2,500 starting next year, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said.
This is expected to benefit more than 400,000 PTPTN borrowers nationwide.
“PTPTN is a lifeline for young people aspiring to pursue higher education...so an individual earning RM2,500 is not required to repay anything yet.
"A minimum repayment of RM50 applies to borrowers earning between RM2,500 and RM3,000 per month,” he told the Dewan Rakyat during the tabling of Budget 2027 today.
Anwar added that borrowers with no outstanding arrears who make consistent repayments will be granted a 10 per cent discount.
Meanwhile, the government has also agreed to provide tax deductions to employers who make PTPTN loan repayments on behalf of their employees.
"This incentive covers repayments made from January 1, 2027 to December 31, 2028,” he said.
