KDEBWM asks for RM2m monthly under 2027 budget for diesel spending

SHAH ALAM, Oct 8 — KDEB Waste Management Sdn Bhd (KDEBWM) is hoping the Selangor government considers giving it RM2 million more a month under the 2027 Selangor Budget so it may better bear diesel costs.

KDEBWM managing director Dato’ Ramli Mohd Tahir said the funds are important to reduce the concessionaire and its subcontractors’ operational costs amid rising diesel prices, as it is currently spending an additional RM4 million a month.

“We have to shoulder additional spending of almost RM4 million a month for KDEB’s overall operations with increased diesel prices.

“If we can’t get RM4 million, maybe the menteri besar could consider (approving) RM2 million a month for us to channel to our subcontractors to help manage this increase in diesel cost,” he told Media Selangor, adding that the allocation would help maintain the quality of waste collection statewide without affecting Selangor’s cleanliness.

Ramli said KDEBWM has discussed the extra funds with the state government, and had been asked to wait for the tabling of the state budget.

“It has been a few months since we requested this aid. If (the government) can help, thank God, because it would help KDEB continue operating better,” he added.

He said KDEBWM’s 800 roll-on, roll-off (roro) trucks don’t receive diesel subsidies, which adds to the company’s operation costs.

Meanwhile, Ramli said KDEBWM is aiming for the cleanup of Selangor’s traditional villages to be done by December, with progress currently between 70 and 80 per cent.

He added that the effort involves more frequent waste collection from these villages, as well as extra roros and 240-litre and 660-litre wheeled MGB waste bins, and expressed hope for more funds to ensure the cleanliness in these villages can be maintained.

Ramli said this is important as resident density and trade in these locations are contributing to the amount of solid waste produced.

Selangor has 275 traditional villages, with RM10 million previously allocated to clean them up and improve solid waste collection.
