SHAH ALAM, Oct 8 — Thirty-eight out of the nation’s 68 air quality monitoring stations showed unhealthy Air Pollutant Index (API) at 5pm today.
According to the API Management System (APIMS) portal, all six stations in Selangor showed unhealthy scores, with the highest in Johan Setia at 178, followed by Shah Alam (172), Banting (171), Klang (166), Petaling Jaya (165), and Kuala Selangor (110).
Johor’s Segamat still has the highest API reading in Malaysia at 191, followed by Negeri Sembilan’s Seremban (188) and Nilai (184).
Other areas in the Klang Valley also had unhealthy air quality with Putrajaya logging an API score of 174, Cheras at 172, and Batu Muda at 169.
The remaining 30 stations showed moderate API readings.
Earlier, His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, advised schools to close in areas with API readings above 150, as a precaution amid the haze season.
Meanwhile, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said he will discuss immediate measures with the Selangor State Education Department (JPNS) to ensure student safety as the haze persists, including whether to distribute face masks at schools.
API readings between 0 and 50 indicate good air quality, 51 to 100 are moderate, 101 to 200 are unhealthy, 201 to 300 are very unhealthy, and readings above 300 are hazardous.
