All stations in Selangor record unhealthy air quality at noon

SHAH ALAM, Oct 8 — All six stations in Selangor recorded unhealthy readings as of 1pm today.

According to the Department of Environment’s (DOE) Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS) portal, six stations in Selangor recorded an unhealthy level, with Johan Setia recording the highest reading at 179.

Shah Alam reported an air quality reading of 170, followed by Banting (168), Klang (167), Petaling Jaya (165), and Kuala Selangor (152).

Nationwide, Segamat, Johor logged the highest unhealthy reading at 189, followed by Seremban (184) and Nilai (182).

Other areas in the Klang Valley with unhealthy air quality included Cheras (174), Putrajaya (173), and Batu Muda (168).

The portal also showed that 38 of 68 stations recorded unhealthy air quality levels, while the remaining 30 registered moderate levels, and none registered good air quality.

In Johor, all schools will close for two days starting today (October 8) due to worsening haze and deteriorating air quality across the state.

Earlier, the Education Ministry instructed State Education Departments (JPN), District Education Offices (PPD), and all educational institutions under the ministry to closely monitor the haze situation in their respective locations.

The ministry also advised that all activities outside the classroom, including sports and assemblies, must be halted immediately in areas recording an Air Pollutant Index (API) reading exceeding 100.

API readings between 0 and 50 indicate good air quality, 51 to 100 moderate, 101 to 200 unhealthy, 201 to 300 very unhealthy, and readings above 300 hazardous.
