SHAH ALAM, Oct 7 — Johan Setia is still the town with the worst air quality in Malaysia at 6pm, with an unhealthy Air Pollutant Index (API) reading of 188.
According to the API Management System (APIMS) portal, it was followed by Kuala Lumpur’s Cheras (185), Negeri Sembilan’s Nilai (184), Putrajaya (181), and Kuala Lumpur’s Batu Muda (180).
In Selangor, after Johan Setia was Shah Alam with an API score of 175, followed by Petaling Jaya (172), Banting (170), Klang (169) and Kuala Selangor (155), all in the unhealthy category.
Thirty-five towns nationwide had unhealthy readings, including Johor’s Segamat (179), Pasir Gudang (176) and Batu Pahat (174).
Meanwhile, moderate API readings were logged in 33 areas, including Kelantan’s Kota Bharu and Sarawak’s Kuching (both 97), Penang’s Seberang Perai (96) and Seberang Jaya (95).
No town had good API readings at 6pm.
An API reading of zero to 50 is good, 51 to 100 is moderate, 101 to 200 is unhealthy, 201 to 300 is very unhealthy, and 301 and above is hazardous.
The Environment Department (DOE) has advised the public to take precautions and limit outdoor activity, especially if their local API reading is unhealthy or worse.
