MELAKA, Oct 7 — The Election Commission (EC) will hold a special meeting today to determine key dates and matters related to the Melaka state election at a hotel on Jalan Bendahara here.
The meeting, chaired by EC chairman Datuk Seri Ramlan Harun, is scheduled to begin at 10 am, followed by a press conference immediately afterwards.
The EC is expected to announce key dates for the Melaka polls, including the issuance of the election writ, nomination day, early voting and polling dates, and the campaign period, as well as details of other election preparations.
On September 22, Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh announced the dissolution of the Melaka Legislative Assembly, effective September 23, paving the way for the 16th state election.
In the 2021 state election, Barisan Nasional (BN) won 21 of the 28 seats contested to form the state government, while Pakatan Harapan (PH) secured five seats and Perikatan Nasional (PN) won two.
