KUSKOP gives 40 local entrepreneurs access to F1 market

SHAH ALAM, Oct 6 — Forty local micro-entrepreneurs earned RM555,000 during the Litar Rasa Madani event, held from October 2 to 4 in conjunction with the Formula 1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix at Sepang International Circuit, said Entrepreneur and Cooperatives Development Minister Steven Sim.

He said the ministry-organised initiative provided 40 stalls for local traders to participate in the international event at a much lower cost.

“The commercial rental rate (in) G Hillstand for three days exceeds RM6,000, excluding sales and services tax (SST), in addition to a 15 per cent commission on gross sales.

“However, the 40 traders under Litar Rasa Madani were not required to pay site rental or sales commission, with only RM180 charged for a business licence by the Sepang Municipal Council (MPSepang),” he said in a statement today.

Sim also said the total food and beverage sales at G Hillstand reached RM555,000 over the three days, exceeding the initial target of RM500,000.

Litar Rasa Madani was located at G Hillstand, where special Madani Tickets were priced at RM200 for three days, with 10,000 tickets exclusively for MyKad holders.

Sim said the initiative not only provided affordable food options for Madani Ticket holders, but also ensured the event benefited local micro-entrepreneurs.

“International events like F1 do not necessarily open doors only to large corporations. It is the ministry’s role to ensure small Malaysian entrepreneurs also have the opportunity to be part of that stage.

“As a result, many vendors had to restock multiple times throughout the event. Visitors were able to enjoy the F1 race while buying food and beverages at reasonable prices, while our entrepreneurs were able to conduct business and gain new customers,” he added.

Sim said tents, tables, chairs, coolers, fans, and other basic facilities were also provided, allowing the entrepreneurs to focus on their stock, workers, and sales.

“Throughout the three-day event, the 40 stalls are offering over 100 food and beverage choices, including local delicacies.

“Visitors at G Hillstand were also provided with water refill facilities and dining areas, as well as easy access to toilets and a prayer hall,” he added.

Sim also assured that KUSKOP would keep expanding market access for micro and small enterprises by reducing cost barriers and creating more opportunities for them to participate in large-scale events and markets.
